There is no version of Pages for Windows and only the Pages application can open a Pages document. That narrows it down to using Pages on a Mac, on iCloud, or on one of iOS, or iPadOS. You can overcome the issue of a Pages document on Windows by exporting it from Pages as a Word .docx document, or PDF. That latter can be opened in Word 16.31 or later and converted to Word .docx.
Single-click any .docx file in the Finder and then press option+cmd+i to open the Get Info window. In the Open With section of that document, set the opening document to "Pages" and then click through the Change All… button so the operating system knows to use Pages as the default opening application.
A .pages file is an editable document created by Pages. So open the file using Pages. If you don't have Pages, or have an old version, download it from the App Store. (It requires macOS 12.3 or later, but you have macOS 14, so you should be OK.) Use the Print command, and in the Print… dialog, use the PDF pop-up menu to Save as PDF….
Why can't non-MAC users open Pages? Every Pages document I create has to be exported to either PDF or Word for anyone to read. This is a hassle for many reasons, not the least of which is if I make an edit, I have to re-export my document.
This has happened a couple of times this week - trying to open a pages document and it fails with message "<filename> can't be opened right now Pages couldn't read the file.
Attempt to open Word docs in Pages - file format invalid Whenever I try to open a Word doc while in Pages, I get the message that it cannot be opened, the file format is invalid. I've looked this up and multiple answers say Pages can convert Word docs, but the answers are at least 3-4 years old and none of the solutions they offer work.
Issue only happening on Pages. Keynote or Numbers files open normally. Already Called Apple Support, and was told they can't do anything because the issue is not happening on Apple Devices, but still, it can't be related to my PC, as it happens on multiple browsers [Re-Titled by Moderator]
To open Pages files that were saved to Google Drive, you may need to remove the ".icloud" extension from the file name. If that doesn't work, try downloading the files to your Mac and opening them directly in Pages.
