Reel to grip methodsYou can see in the pic below I use rubber bands to hold the reel while taping. That rod has two rubber bands on it because I didn't know if I was gonna like that reel on that rod. However, when mounting a reel with Tommy Tape I will rubber band the back of the reel, and tape the front first. Then remove the rubber band and tape the back. Very simple process! I cut a piece ...
Using summer reels for ice fishingDave Genz use to recommend taking the reels face plate off and poring hot kettle water into the reel to remove the factory grease then use a good winter oil/grease . I never tried this but do notice that some of my cheaper reels are sluggish/stiff while other reels not an issue .I would imagine that "greases" have improved over the years for a wider range of ...
The reel is slightly on the smaller side and that is the reason for liking it. It has less weight and therefore, I can detect a lighter bite. Obviously the reel doesn't have the line capacity but I'm not fishing for Northerns or Musky. Walleye don't tend to make long runs. And if I do hook a longer running fish, I still have plenty of line to ...
The long stem just seemed to make the combo too big if that makes sense, that reel sticking out so far just got in the way. I fish with gloves a lot, but thinner gloves so I personally don't have a need for the long stem.

I would highly recommend their hole covers as well. The only issue I have with them, as with any tip-up, is that they are great for live bait presentations, but not so much for anything else.

The reel smoothly turns on its own as the jig descends and the line stays straight and slides nicely through my Venom slip bobber - something that never happened with the line before.
Hi, my name is Skorpion and I have a gear addiction…. I have a set of 5 finicky foolers. They are a blast to run early and late season, or anytime it’s not so cold out that the line on your reel is freezing up after a fish or two. More and more of these warm ice days every year it seems… running strait fluorocarbon can reduce freeze up. I like to run them with small Okuma bait runner ...
